StorY

Founded by John Scalleat with the opening of The Ovalon in 1974, our company now extends beyond the walls of our eateries. Our innovative multichannel approach to gourmet experiences leverage our signature warmth & hospitality, culinary excellence, and e-commerce.

We are diverse. Our approach combines expertise in property development & management, culinary & hospitality excellence, e-commerce & logistics efficiency, product development & production, and content creation.

Powerhouse Eatery

Since 1989, the Powerhouse Eatery has been providing customers with an exceptional dining experience in a unique, historic atmosphere. The former power plant from which we take our name has been transformed into a contemporary dining destination, welcoming patrons from throughout the country to our home in White Haven, Pennsylvania. Yet the distinctive past of our building is always present in our remarkable dining experience.

 

The Canning House continues our mission to deliver outstanding food in unique & historic environments. The former canning production facility from which we take our name has been transformed into a modern dining destination. Yet the distinctive past of our building is always present in our remarkable experience, accompanied by our relentless attention to detail, fierce commitment to quality, and peerless customer satisfaction.

 

The Ovalon Bar & Grill is Hazleton's longest standing fine dining restaurant. Today the Ovalon is a Italian fine dining tradition, and stands as the roots of the Scalleat Hospitality Group's three restaurants. Our chefs feature Italian Classics – as well as contemporary offerings – in our wide-ranging entrΓ©e selections. For those that enjoy a lighter fare, a sandwich or a small plate at our smoke free bar is an excellent option. Families can sit and appreciate a relaxing meal with their children, who can order from the children’s menu. We also have a full menu available for takeout.

 

Counterpart Kombucha produces the highest quality, traditionally fermented Kombucha. Natalie Lynn owns and operates Counterpart Kombucha with a love of nature, local agriculture, and true health. Counterpart Kombucha joined the Scalleat Hospitality Group’s family of brands and is featured throughout all of our locations, and most notably at The Canning House, where you will find eight flavors on draft, all bottled flavors, and experimental batches! We love it and we think you might too.
